Northeastern University provides digital peer support for students across their global university system

Students at Northeastern’s 13 campuses can access a 24/7, clinically moderated mental health support community

We are thrilled to announce that students at Northeastern University can now access a clinically moderated mental health support resource to connect with a global community of peers with shared lived experiences. The University launched a partnership with Togetherall, a safe and anonymous space in which students can benefit from an online peer-to-peer community by giving and getting support 24/7. Northeastern offers Togetherall’s platform in addition to existing services, including support groups, psychopharmacology, and connection to unlimited free counseling.

While Northeastern offers a breadth of services, Christine Civiletto, Ph.D., Assistant Vice Chancellor of Wellness at Northeastern, and her team were searching for a complementary offering to provide in-the-moment support for students throughout Northeastern’s global network.

Dr. Civiletto said,

“Northeastern offers full-time degree-seeking students a wide range of mental health services, including 24/7 support and free unlimited counseling sessions through Find@Northeastern. With Togetherall, we can expand mental health support offerings to ALL Northeastern students.”

Dr. Civiletto went on to say,

“While traditional therapy can be incredibly helpful in various situations and circumstances, many issues students experience do not require a clinical response or intervention. We are excited to offer multiple opportunities for students to access support with resources available to address a wide range of needs across the mental health continuum. By proactively offering options for varying levels of support, we aim to reduce the incidence of mental health crises and mitigate the need for clinical intervention.”

Northeastern students can now access Togetherall’s clinically moderated peer support community, regardless of location or student status. With 24/7 clinical oversight of the online platform, members can anonymously give and get support with the safeguarding of licensed clinicians monitoring for high-risk language and behavior.

“Clinically moderated peer support provides the best of both worlds – students can get and give support to and from other peers while also having access to licensed mental health clinicians if needed,” said Dr. Civiletto. “This provides a level of safety and comfort not only to the students who are reaching out for support but also to those who are providing it.”

In speaking to their aspirations around mental health and wellbeing, Dr. Civiletto shared,

“When we think about the future of wellness at Northeastern, we envision a university community where our students thrive. This vision includes students having access to a strong support network and relevant resources whenever they need them from anywhere in the world. Through our partnership with Togetherall, we are excited to offer mental health support to all students across Northeastern’s global university system.”

Togetherall is thrilled to provide digital peer support for Northeastern’s students throughout this school year and beyond.
