Falkirk Council renews with Togetherall and expands service to parents and caregivers

After two years of providing digital peer support for residents ages 16-26, those who care for them can now access the same support

We are excited to announce that, after two years of collaboration, Falkirk Council has renewed with Togetherall and expanded their offering to provide digital peer support for parents and caregivers of those ages 16-26 already eligible for the service. This expansion is made possible through our trusted partnerships with Falkirk’s Mental Health Association, Barnardo’s Children’s Charity, and Aberlour Children’s Charity. Through the renewed collaboration withTogetherall, parents and caregivers can engage with a global community of peers, giving and getting peer support in a safe and anonymous online environment, available 24/7/365.

Based in the Central Lowlands of Scotland, the town of Falkirk is known for its rural beauty and picturesque attractions. While living in a rural setting has its benefits, it can also mean that accessing mental healthcare might be more difficult. In 2022 Falkirk Council brought on Togetherall’s digital peer support community to provide 24/7, in-the-moment mental health support for younger residents, ages 16-26. Now they’ve expanded their offering to provide access to the parents and caregivers of these young people, who can give and get the support they need in helping loved ones through struggles, as well as working through their own challenges.

Gillian Campbell, Acting Service Manager for Falkirk Council, and her team chose Togetherall and decided to expand their offering for several reasons. The service is able to reach people in a rural setting through a digital platform, so users have access on any device wherever there is an internet connection. Data reports that Togetherall has been effective in reaching at-risk individuals in the Falkirk community and has had a positive impact with those engaging on the platform.

Togetherall’s community is also overseen around-the-clock by mental health practitioners, monitoring for high-risk language, and responding or escalating when necessary. The service additionally seamlessly integrates with existing services Falkirk Council offers, reaching different members of the community who may not engage in other offerings – or typically seek help at all. Campbell shared,

“Togetherall have offered a wonderful service for young people in Falkirk for the past two years and we are excited to now extend that offer to parents and care givers, helping us reach others in the community who can benefit from the excellent tools available. There’s a reassurance for families to know that there’s a space where they can interact with others, day or night in a supportive and safe environment.”

“We are thrilled to renew our collaboration with Falkirk Council and proud to extend our offering to the parents and caregivers of those ages 16-26 already eligible for the service,” said Matthew McEvoy, CEO of Togetherall. “Supporting a young person can present challenges for those offering the support, as well as to the young person in need; connecting parents and caregivers to other parents in our community is a natural extension of our support to young people across Falkirk. Togetherall exists along the mental health care continuum, working alongside other services to bridge gaps of service and provide support for those that might not typically seek help. Togetherall’s digital peer support has already made progress in reaching Falkirk’s younger contingent, especially those less likely to seek support, and we hope to do the same for the caretakers of these young people in the near and ongoing future.”

Falkirk Council aspires to provide digital peer support for their entire population, so anyone can access mental health support in their moment of need.
